Set on the edge of the rugged coast mountains on mainland B.C., Forward Harbour is located eighty kilometres north of Campbell River on Vancouver Island, British Columbia and 15 nautical miles east of Sayward, a small village with approximately 2000 residents. There are no roads into Forward Harbour so we generally travel to Sayward by water and then drive to Campbell River for supplies. There is a scheduled float plane flight to and from Campbell River daily.

Our Forward Harbour lodge sits on the banks of Wortly Creek, a fertile stream that supports four species of salmon, trout and an abundance of waterfowl. In the spring there are numerous grizzly and black bears that come to graze on the long beach grasses and frolic on the beach. During the late summer and early fall spawning salmon attract bears, eagles, seals and many other scavengers to the creek. You can watch the bears and eagles feeding from the comforts of our lodge. Only a few kilometres out of Forward Harbour there are many dolphins and killer whales to be seen.

We are basically a private lodge but we do have a few self contained cabins for rent during the summer months. We like to grow our own veggies in the summer and have an abundance of good seafood at our doorstep year round. We also have taken up raising wolf pups it seems as our new dog Miska recently had her first litter of seven and her mate Meathead seems very enthusiastic about the whole deal.

There are a couple hundred kilometres of old road that we access with ATVs and several pristine lakes with excellent trout fishing with plenty of wildlife to see along the way. One of these lakes makes extremely rare perfectly round cedar balls up to the size of a basketball. We have several buildings on the premise and can accommodate up to 24 friends and family at once. Right in front of our lodge we have some pretty cool petroglyphs made over ten thousand years ago according to the anthropologists report. Fresh air, clean water, natural food, privacy and beautiful B.C. weather makes Forward Harbour a little piece of heaven on earth.

Forward Harbour comes off the Wellbore Channel at the east end of Hardwicke Island. It is well sheltered and just inside the entrance to the harbour is the area of Douglas Bay which is designated as a safe mooring place for boats when it gets rough out on Johnson Strait. Our Lodge is at the northeast shore at the end of the harbour. The Lodge looks out onto the estuary where twice daily tides provide a ever changing view. A short road connects us with the dock area and moorage facilities. Having low mountains to the east and west provides us with the optimum sunshine time.
